Regal Radio Statement: 31 August 2017

We are aware of the recent confusion and public concern caused by a national newspaper reporting on the alleged closure of Bathgate’s Regal Community Theatre. We would like it to be known that the Regal is not closing, but will have a change of management in that it will be run under the auspices of West Lothian Council, the owner of the building. The Council has stated publicly its recognition of the importance of this iconic listed building, and its commitment to keeping the theatre running as a valuable community resource.

The Council will be undertaking a consultation exercise with users of the building and the local community in general to ascertain the best way forward for the building. We would urge all our listeners to engage positively in this process by offering your thoughts and ideas - you may wish to contact your local councillor to let him or her know how strongly you feel about keeping the resource going as an important community facility.

As Regal Radio, we are very proud to be associated with the Regal Community Theatre and the staff there who work tirelessly to provide a wonderful service to all who use the building. We are extremely happy that it will remain open for the use and benefit of the community, and we shall continue to broadcast our diverse range of programming without interruption.

If there is anything further to report, we shall post updates on the station website at www.regalradio.net and our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/regalradio. Thank you for supporting West Lothian’s community radio station and the Regal Community Theatre generally.

There is no doubt that the theatre can always use more public support and so we would ask that you consider attending shows there, or hiring a room if you have a need for a meeting place for your group or organisation. We use it or we lose it!
